Year 2: Simplifying the Back End with ExpressJS
By Nyakeh Saffa-Songa · Sep 21, 2026 · 1 min read

ExpressJS is a web framework built on top of NodeJS. It is used to handle web requests, create APIs, and route users to the right places on a website. While NodeJS handles the core, ExpressJS gives the tools to manage everything much easier.
Students are learning ExpressJS because writing back-end code completely from scratch takes a lot of time. ExpressJS, when used with Node, simplifies the process, allowing our Year 2 students to build server-side applications faster and with cleaner code.
It is an industry standard because it is fast, flexible, and used by major companies like Netflix and Uber. By learning this framework, students are gaining the skills that companies look for in back-end developers.
